In a word – LOTS! Especially when it is Saving Cinderella’s logo!

The Clock

The Crown

Cinderella

The use of the clock, set to only minutes before midnight, is a nod to a concept called “the tyranny of the moment.” This phrase refers to the challenges experienced by a person in poverty when it comes to budgeting time. Christine had the opportunity to experience an aspect of this dynamic by participating in a Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.) event through Think Tank Inc. She was given details about a real Dayton, OH family living in poverty and then taken through a simulation of a day in their life. She felt the anxiety of the bus being late, the doctor not understanding when she then arrived late to their office, and then finding the bank closed by the time she got there. After the C.O.P.E. event, “the tyranny of the moment” easily became an essential element in Saving Cinderella – symbolized by an ever present, unrelenting clock.,

The crown symbolizes Cinderella’s new role as a princess – but even more than that, it reflects the victory to be won when she finally realizes this new version of herself:

  • No longer ashamed
  • Holding the perspective of the poor while carrying out the duties of royalty

And while she is initially teased as being a “Pauper Princess,” the crown represents the inherent power she can find if she can own her past while embracing her new role.

Cinderella’s expression speaks volumes about how she sees herself as well as her new role. With the clock looming behind her and the crown precariously perched on her fingertips, Cinderella is incredibly insecure.

Will she find the value hidden in her experiences as a woman growing up in poverty?

Will she take all she knows and give voice to the needs of her people?

Will she be able to become the princess her country needs?

(We’ll just have to see…)

The creation of our lovely logo is its own winding tale. The first artist to work on the Saving Cinderella logo was Steven Knerem. Steven is a versitile artist who previously worked with Hallmark and since transitioned to creating stunning and intricate tattoos. Christine has always admired Steven’s work and knew she wanted him to help develop the Saving Cinderella logo. Originally, she sent him this image as a starting point…

Ok – bit of a rough beginning. But Steven sent Christine several concepts which eventually netted us this image…

Still not a professional image, but soon everything began to change…

Christine felt so honored to work with Steven and was overjoyed when local artist Christine Leong agreed to put on the finishing touches. Christine is experienced in print media, participates yearly in Drawtober, and enjoys creating fanciful images with special attention to light and emotion. In her hands, we eventually arrived at the image we all know…
